The Seattle Kraken officially enter the NHL and SCD in June 2021. Accordingly, we'll hold our Expansion Draft shortly after the IRL draft has completed. Barring a change with the real life Seattle expansion draft, SCD will hold the Seattle Kraken expansion draft starting on Friday July 23, 2021.
Vegas and all other 30 NHL franchises are to participate in the Expansion Draft process where Seattle can select one asset. The guidelines for the draft are as follows.
Teams can protect:
9 players + a goalie (or 10 with no goalie) and a limit of 20 prospects from their farm. Teams with 20 or less prospects can only protect 50% of their available prospects.
RFA players and SCD level contracts (year 2 or 3 NHLers) at the start of the 21/22 season are EXEMPT and thus do not need to be protected by their franchise; Seattle is limited to 10 selections of prospects (non NHL Players) in the expansion draft process, and can only select up to 2 NHL goaltenders. A franchise can opt to leave SCD level contract players exposed should they wish, but it will not allow them to protect an extra player on their protected list).
Each NHL franchise needs to have at least 2 under contract NHLers who played AN AVERAGE of 40 games over the past three NHLS seasons (18/19, 19/20 and 20/21 seasons); these players CAN BE RFA or SCD scale contract players (this decision is made by the team's GM and the players must be selected prior to the draft). Failure to do this and a team's next available 3rd Round Draft Pick will be offered as compensation to Seattle.
Prior to the re-opening of trading, League Management (less Mike - SEA GM) will compile two lists of assets for each of the current 31 SCD teams:
1. a list of all players on a team that are "exempt" from the draft, and
2. a list of all players and prospects that are to be reviewed by each team to be protected or exposed.
All GMs will be notified of their list, and then trading will be opened up the weekend of May 21-23, 2021. Trading will freeze at 11:59pm EST on Sunday July 18th. A final list of Expansion protected and exposed players are to be messaged to Beamer no later than Wednesday July 21st at 11:59pm EST. Once this list has been set and approved by the LMs (less Mike - SEA), the list will be posted in the SCD Proboards for all to see and amendments will not be permitted.
The Kraken will be assigned the #1 Waiver Wire position once they officially enter the league (Waiver Wire selections have currently been frozen since the 2020/21 Trade deadline). Once Free Agency re-opens August 20th , the Waiver Wire will also re-open. After their first claim, Seattle will stay in the #1 position for one more turn before heading to #32 on the waiver priority chart (in essence, Seattle gets 1st priority twice in a row for waiver claims).
Seattle in SCD will be assigned the IRL draft position of the Seattle Kraken. The IRL Kraken have been placed at #3 in the draft order currently and they will have the same odds to move up or down from that position based on the IRL Draft Lottery.
Arrangements to select certain players/assets in order to not take another player/assets IS ALLOWED. Feel free to strike up a deal with Mike-SEA and make side deals with him at any time up until the final freezing of
If you have any questions or to submit you list of protected players/assets in summer 2021, please message myself.
Cheers,
Beamer
