Welcome:
Welcome to Slapshot Central Dynasty (SCD). This is a 31 team Fantasy Dynasty Hockey League where each GM will own a team and control the aspects for one NHL franchise.
Amendments to the rules made for 2019/20 season are in RED.
History:
Managed by Wood (STL), this league began with the “in real life” (IRL) contracts for NHL Rosters and prospect pools as at June 25, 2015. Each team has been molded by the Fantasy GM/ owner by trading, drafting, signing and releasing of players. Effective early 2017, the league began under new coordination.
Expectation:
The SCD expects all owners to use and display integrity, sportsmanship and tact when dealing with other owners. Disrespect, owner collusion, ownership of multiple teams by one GM, etc, will not be tolerated and will result in automatic expulsion and the blocking of your IP address.
Most importantly, STAY ACTIVE; log into the SCD Proboards site at minimum every second day (even more than that is welcomed). Other GMs can see when people log in; showing that you’ve logged in recently helps keep everyone’s interest and passion for this type of league. There are not too many 31 team leagues like SCD, so keeping this league going with a full slate of active GMs will be more of a challenge that a league with less than 31 teams. Do your part and please log in. There is a sliding scale of penalties for GM inactivity (if away for vacation, work, etc…) please post a note in the “Away” thread. They will be applied at the discretion of the LMs.
• 2 weeks with no activity - warning message from an LM
• 3 weeks with no activity - final warning and a $3.00M salary cap penalty
• 4 weeks with no activity – GM removed from league
Although not required, having a GroupMe account will allow you to join in on the chatter from other GMs and will make for an interactive experience.
Replying to personal messages in the Proboards site is highly encouraged otherwise owner activity will be questioned.
Even though the SCD master spreadsheet has the up to date rosters, in each team thread, the GM is expected to keep at least two (2) updated threads for the current season:
1) Team Roster/Prospects
2) Transaction Files (trades, farm team moves and waiver transactions)
The more info provided the better. Take pride and ownership in your franchise.
NHL and Prospect Roster Limits and Salary Cap/Floor:
• The Salary Cap and Salary Floor will change yearly to match the In Real Life (IRL) NHL Cap and Floor. Each team must stay within this range during the SCD season. During the SCD off-season, teams may go over the previous year’s cap by no more than $5 Million. There is no salary floor in place during the off-season. All teams must be cap compliant by the start of the SCD season or team penalties will come into effect as determined by SCD League Moderators. 2019/20 CAP is $81.5M and the FLOOR is $60.2M.
• Active NHL rosters are limited to 25 players and must have a minimum of 15 players who are active on IRL NHLers. Injured players who are on the real-life IR list can be moved to the IR list and that will allow for up to 30 NHL roster players. (I.e. there are 5 IR spots available on your rosters).
• All transactions must be posted by the GM in both the applicable folder in the ProBoards site and making the move in Fantrax.
• Each owner is responsible to keep their NHL roster up to date. Should this not be done, League Moderators will apply a penalty based on a sliding scale (see below).
Penalties for not being in Salary Floor/Cap compliance or having a compliant roster:
o 1st Week: Cap Penalty of $5.00 Million dollars – applied for the full season
o 2nd Week: Loss of Draft pick(s) as determined by League Management
o 3rd Week: Additional Cap Penalty of $10.00 Million dollars – applied for the full season
o 4th Week: Removal from SCD as a GM
Contracts:
NHL Player Contracts (non-SCD Scale - 4+ years of NHL Experience)
• CAP HIT is the dollar value that is used when determining a player’s contract and rounded to TWO decimal places. All IRL 4+ year contracts are indicated in BLACK.
NHL Player Contracts (SCD Scale - 1 to 3 years NHL Experience)
• A rookie scale contract is applied to all players who are in their first 3 NHL seasons in the league. To apply this scale, a player must play in a minimum of 30 IRL NHL games (15 if a goaltender) during his 1st NHL season and for years 2 and 3 a minimum of 15 games (for both skaters and goaltenders). Should the minimum games played not be reached in any of the three seasons, that player stays at the NHL year level played from the prior season.
• The contract value for an SCD scale player is $0.80M for all three seasons. If a player is in the farm for year one of the SCD contract, $0.80M salary is removed (not applied to the Salary Cap). If the player is in the farm for years 2 and 3 of his SCD deal, the $0.80M contract is applied to the Salary Cap.
• Upon completion of the 3-year SCD contract, the player is deemed a Restricted Free Agent (RFA) and can either have his available IRL contract accepted by the GM (up until the posted RFA deadline in September) or he can be immediately released to Unrestricted Free Agency (UFA)
Franchise Tag:
• A player who is a pending RFA or UFA can be “franchise tagged” by a GM in order to retain his services. (20-21 AMENDMENT TO BE ADDED)
• A player can be tagged up to two times at either a 1 year or 2-year term.
• A team can only have one active tag at a time
• To determine the contract value for these Franchise tagged players, the League Moderator will use the Fantrax.com site.
• The player rater will then use the following scale for contract values:
o Ranked 1-25 --> $ 10.00M Annual salary
o Ranked 26-50 --> $8.00M Annual salary
o Ranked 51-75 --> $6.00M Annual salary
o Ranked 76-100 --> $4.00M Annual salary
o Ranked 101-200 --> $2.00M Annual salary
o Ranked 201-300--> $1.00M Annual salary
o Ranked 301+ --> $0.50M Annual salary
Farm Team/Prospects:
• Each owner is allowed to have up to 50 prospects on the Farm Team/prospect list without penalty.
• A $0.80M levy will be applied to the Team’s Salary cap for each player over that 50 player maximum. The only contracts that will be permitted to the farm team will be Year 2 and 3 SCD Scale contracts.
• No NHLer with a non-SCD Scale contract can be rostered in the farm team
Fantrax Match-ups:
• A Head-to-Head match-up in www.fantrax.com will pit teams against each other throughout the season (21 weeks). A total of 16 teams (8 per conference) will make playoffs.
The Playoff format is Top 3 per division, plus 2 Wild Card positions based on the record in the conference (mimicking IRL NHL).
• Categories are as follows:
o Skaters: G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, ATOI, SOG, HIT, BLK, FOW, SHP (effective 2020/21 season)
o Goalies: W, GAA, SV%, SO, Saves
• Each team’s roster will have the following Starting Line-up positions available:
o 4 Centers
o 4 Left Wingers
o 4 Right Wingers
o 6 Defensemen
o 1 Goalie
o 6 Bench
o 5 Injured Reserve
• To break ties in the regular overall standings, fewest loses is the 1st determinant, followed by head to head record, and then finally divisional record. In the playoffs, MOST playoff goals are the 1st determinant, followed by LOWEST Goals Against Average (GAA), BEST +/- and if it’s still a tie, MOST penalty minutes.
• The SCD has all 31 teams in one league on Fantrax. Due to this number of teams, Fantrax charges a yearly fee which is covered graciously upfront by Derek (BOS). It’s greatly appreciated if GMs in SCD contribute between $3 to $5 US to help cover the cost
• Up to six (6) add drops are allowed per head to head match-up
Entry Draft:
• The Draft occurs during the summer off-season (in mid-to-late July)
• SCD mimics IRL NHL Draft methodology for draft positions fo teams. A Draft Lottery for the 1st Round for clubs that did not qualify for the past season's Playoffs - or the clubs that acquired the first-round picks of the non-playoff clubs will be entered into the lottery. SCD will mimic the results as per odds used in the IRL Draft Lottery. eg. IRL Ottawa Senators draft pick (owned by Colorado Avalanchle after trade) had the best odds of winning the 1st Overall selction. In SCD, those draft odds were assigned to the 31st positioned team, the Minnesota Wild. As the IRL draft selection commenced, the IRL results were applied to all 15 SCD non-playoff teams. The SCD Wild team ended up with the 4th overall selection (as per the IRL Senators (now Avalanche) pick).
• Rounds 2 through 4 will follow the format of 31st picking 1st in each round through to Cup winner picking last in each round (barring trades of those picsk of course).
• The time allowed to make a pick:
o Round 1: 24 hours allowed per pick for a GM to make a selection
o Rounds 2 through 4: 12 hours to make a selection
• Should a GM not make their pick during the allowed time, a player is “auto-drafted” based on the next player drafted as per the IRL NHL Entry Draft.
• Only players who were drafted in the IRL NHL Entry Draft are eligible to be selected in the SCD Draft.
• All players who are draft eligible and not selected in the SCD Entry Draft become free agents and can be claimed via waivers by any GM.
Player Extensions and Free Agency:
• Players (both RFA and UFA) can have IRL contracts accepted and applied in order to retain the player. Deadlines to accept these free agents will be posted each year by the League Moderators, but generally, UFA extensions are allowed until the end of June, and RFA extensions are allowed until a date in September as set out by the LM. Any declined extension will release the player to UFA status immediately.
• Free Agents are awarded to the highest bidder who remains within the team’s off-season Salary Cap (IRL cap plus $5M).
• The highest bid must stand for a 24 hour period
• The minimum contract length is 1 year and a maximum contract term is 5 years
• The minimum bid is $0.40M
• The minimum bid increment is $0.10M
• Players who are free agents can be retained by their former team (the team that they are on as of roster freeze from the prior season). The GM has the option to apply a Home Town Discount (calculator for this option is found in the pullout menu of the ProBoards Site).
o 1 year - 5%
o 2-3 years – 10%
o 4-5 years – 15%
o 6 or more years – 20%
• Term and Dollars can change – make use to the SCD Free Agency Calculation found in the Pull Out Menu on the ProBoards Site
• Once a player hits SCD Free Agency, that player is no longer eligible to receive an IRL contract extension
• All Players who fall under the SCD Scale contract scenario (Year 1 to 3 NHL players and prospects), must be placed on waivers and that player will be awarded to the team with the highest priority after 48 hours of the original post. Only players who are no longer draft eligible can be signed and clear waivers (i.e. no signings of players who are still draft eligible in future seasons).
• Off-Season free agent signees cannot be signed and then traded to another team until the start of the first week of the NHL season
A GM has 7 DAYS from official drafting date/successful claim via waiver wire to add the acquired player(s) to their Fantrax roster. Failure to do so and those assets will become a FREE AGENT for others to try and acquire.
Waiving/Releasing players and prospects and Amnesty drop:
• All release players will go on the waiver wire for a 48 hour period from the original player release post.
• The team releasing the player will be responsible to half the salary for the remainder of the term of the contract (except for New GM Amnesty, players going to Europe and IRL contract players retirement – see below)
o New GM Amnesty: when a new GM joins SCD, they are allowed one (1) time player amnesty to remove a bad contract. That player will automatically become an Unrestricted Free Agent (i.e. no waivers apply on this player). If the player's salary is below or equal to $20.0M a year, there is no salary retained. If the player’s contract is over $20M per season, that GM is responsible for half (50%) of the portion that is over $20M for the duration of the contract. E.g. Dany Heatley has two years remaining at $32.0M per season, that GM would owe $6.0M for the remaining two years after amnestying him. Amnesty clauses are NOT tradable.
o If a player leaves the NHL and joins a KHL or other professional European League, that player can be released for with no penalty (IRL or SCD signed contract)
o If a player retires, no penalty is applied to a contract that is an IRL contract. If there is retained salary on a player who retires with an IRL contract, that team retaining the salary is still responsible for the full amount and term retained. If the deal is an SCD signed deal, the team is responsible for half to the contract salary and the remaining term of the deal
• If the player is claimed by another team, the other half of the salary and the remaining length of the term is picked up by that claiming team
• Any prospect or SCD Scale player being waived/released will not have a salary penalty applied (a player under this category will be on waivers for 48 hours)
Waiver Wire:
• When a player is waived, all 30 other teams can put in a claim
• A waiver priority tab can be found in the SCD Master spreadsheet.
• The team with the highest priority will win the claim of a player, upon which that team will then be moved to the lowest priority after the transaction has completed.
Trading:
• All Players, Prospects and Draft Picks can be traded (CAP space CANNOT be traded)
• Retaining Salary on players is allowed; the trading team may only retain up to 25% of a player’s salary for a maximum of 2 years and the trading teams can only cover up to $2.00M during any time period.
Example: Jaromir Jagr has a cap hit of $5.00M, only $1.25M can be covered by the team trading the player away. The other $3.75M would be covered by the team receiving the player. The trading team can then only retain another $0.75M in any more trades where retained salary occurs between that trading partner.
• Post a Team Trade Block Thread to identify assets you wish to move or acquire
• Use PMs, GroupMe, and or forms of correspondence to negotiate and complete a deal
• Ensure the following is stated in a trade when posted in the Trade Thread:
o The teams involved in the trade
o The full player name(s), position(s) and salary (include both dollar value and term)
o If a draft pick is involved, identify the original owner of pick, as well as the draft year
o State the reason why the trade was made and of what benefit it is to your franchise
• ALL GMs in the SCD are encouraged to vote (pass or veto) on any trade (i.e. there is no TAB (Trade Approval Board))
o A trade must pass by four (4) favorable votes
o If there are four (4) vetoes, the deal is officially dead
o All voting GMs should include a brief justification as to why you approve/veto a trade
• The trading period is set by League Moderators and is frozen at certain points during the calendar year (e.g. Trade Deadline prior to SCD Playoffs)
Coaches:
A side game to Slapshot; separate budget of $8.00M is allocated for all coaches in any current season. A GM can hire and fire an actual Head Coach. The coach must be a professional coach in and be alive. A coach must first be fired before another is attempted to be hired. Minimum contract is 800K, and the maximum is $8.00M. Minimum term is 1 year and the maximum term is 5 years. In order to sign a coach, the contract offer must stand for 24 hours and have the longest term and salary. Coaches cannot be traded.
SCD Off-Season:
• Commences once the SCD Finals are complete in April
• Input for the betterment of the league from all GMs is welcomed; please message a League Moderator directly or post feedback in the Suggestion thread in the ProBoards site at any time.
• What occurs during the off-season:
o Free agency, trading and player waiving, promotion and demotions are frozen
o Player years played and SCD contract status is reviewed and updated
o Team’s Franchise Tags are reviews and updated as necessary
o RFA and UFA are identified on each team’s roster
o IRL contract extensions are reviewed throughout the year. Any remaining unaccepted IRL extensions not picked-up by a player’s GM by 11:59 pm EST June 30th will see that player hit the SCD Unrestricted Free Agent market.
A 12-month calendar for the upcoming season is posted for all GMs reference (e.g. when the draft is, when free agency begins, etc...)
