Beamer - Welcome back to GM interviews with Beamer..... today we chat with a long standing of SCD...Derek. Question 1. Where do you see your Boston 'strong' Bruins finishing this upcoming season in SCD?
Derek - I see the Bruins possibly taking a step back this year, I think last season was a fantastic season from the Bruins in real life which translated well for me in SCD. The window is closing with our core group here in Boston.
Beamer - You're a talented GM...I think a step back is glong from 1st to 2nd. You're right though, some of us established teams have the window closing soon. Question 2. Who's your picks for Finalists in both SCD and In IRL NHL this season and why?
Derek - Thanks we try. Theres Is some changing or the guard so to speak, teams like the Winnipeg Jets and the Chicago Blackhawks strike me as teams that may have "it" this year, can sleep on the Carolina Hurricanes or the consistently dominate Florida Panthers and Your Calgary Flames. Should be a fun season, we will see how it all shakes out soon.As for Real life NHL, I've always like the Core of the Nashville Predators, I think they can take their game to the next level. The Blues scare me again, that team was so dominant in the playoffs, hard to not have them in the Stanley Cup conversation again. The Colorado avalanche I think could be a Darkhorse team but with the addition of Kadri I will root against it. Sorry Cole.
Beamer - Definitely a number of good options for franchises that can take it in SCD. Totally agree with Nashville...D wins championships and they certainly have that on their side. Onto question 3. We all know Bobby Orr is the undisputed top player in Bruins history. Who's the next best in your opinion and why?
Derek - I think for me in my lifetime it has to be Raymond Bourque. Ray was electric, such a strong skater and would just be in relentless pursuit of the puck every shift. Organizationally when Ray arrived in his Rookie season in 1979 the "Big bad Bruins" era was ending and I think Ray from the standpoint of the years he played (79-01) really bridges the gap between the Big Bad Bruins of the 70s and the Bruins of today. He was really something. Honorable mention for me would include: Milt Schmidt, Eddie Shore, Phil Esposito, Tim Thomas, Cam Neely and Patrice Bergeron.
Beamer - I was a fan of Neely....damn injury bug. #kickhisassseabass is another memory I have of him. Certainly a lot to pick from and I agree about Mr. Bourque. Question 4. How long does it take you to scroll through Facebook before giving up?
Derek - For me I'd rather stare at the SCD mastersheet than scroll on Facebook but I'd say I'm just as addicted as everyone else so hours upon hours is my final answer.
Beamer - And here I thought I was the only one who stares at the SCD Master for hours on end. I personally get bored of Facebook after 3-4 minutes and then onto something else on my phone. Last question.... Have you ever started petting a really fluffy dog and just gotten very overwhelmed by how fluffy that dog really is?
Derek - Yes absolutely, being the owner of two very fluffy dogs, the fluff factor is at an all time high here in Boston.
Beamer - I miss having a pup around.....fluff and all. I know you take them out for walks and all...great way to get out and spend quality time with members of the family. Best of luck this season Derek
