Welcome to another installment of Qs with Beamer...
Beamer - Question 1.... where do you see your Ottawa team finishing this year? Playoffs ? Pretender?
McBitter - Pretender?? This isn't the 'Adventures of Peter Pan' Beamer, with pixie dust and flying children void of any adult supervision!!! We either have a team or we don't and as a rule I try not to succumb to delusions of grandeur! After 2 full seasons in SCD I would say I am ahead of the 3 year plan I set for myself after tearing down the team I inherited! Got younger and with a solid yound core around Kakko, Kotkaniemi, White ect... I stocked up on some solid vets through trade and FA and am poised to try and make some noise in the competitive east! Also... trading next years pick for Kakko gave me extra motivation to avoid being a lottery team (sorry Vegas)
Beamer - Fair enough...was a acquisition for you to get that #2 pick....Kakko would have been my pick had Hughes not been there. Question #2. Who do you see as the Cup finalists for both SCD and IRL NHL?
McBitter - IRL I would say Tampa pulls the same deal as the 96 Redwings who had their historic regular season stopped in the 1st rnd only to win the cup the next year and I think it will be the Preds that they beat! In SCD I would like to see you and Carl battle it out for bragging rights although if you can't get you top RFA signed to a deal i would lean more towards the Kings in the west.
Beamer - Thankfully LA has a similar rfa issue too; I have enough depth hopefully if I lose him. Good picks though and yep....96 Red Wings were quite a club...TB is in position to do what they did. Question 3. It's no secret that you love Les Habitants. How brilliant (or not so brilliant) is Marc Bergevin as IRL GM? Do you like the way team team in built? He's probably the best dressed GM (he had lots of time to learn about fashion since he sure wasn't playing a whole heck of a lot during his NHL playing days).
McBitter - That's a very good and complicated question to answer! MB has had quite the roller coaster ride in terms of popularity with fans but overall I am happy with him, and after the Drouin deal for Sergachev I wanted his head on a pike medieval style although I did understand the Subban trade despite being in the minority on that one!!! Since acquiring Drouin I think MB has been one of the better GMs in the league! The haul for Patches, saving Domi from being buried in the desert, his drafting!Even the Aho offer sheet I loved even if it wasnt big enough to get him! Bergevin has balls unlike most NHL exec's and the future is bright for Les Canadien.
Beamer - I tend to agree....he's got some balls and knows that you need some to make the major moves to get a team into contention. Question 4.. What's the most money you've ever drunkenly spent at McBitter's...err McDonald's?
McBitter - You would be surprised how easily a 150 lb guy can eat $27 worth of McDoubles after a hockey day in Canada triple header and beers!!
Beamer - I wonder how much cholesterol that would have been to your system.....I'd probably need to detox for a good month to get all that crap out of my system. Last question. If an infant was staring at you in a public place, and just stared, and stared and stared...maybe even drooled a bit....how uncomfortable would that make you feel and what would you do about it?
McBitter - First of all I don't buy into the mainstream idea that babies are innocent and dont realize what the are doing! They know PRECISELY what they are doing! They spend the 1st 9 months of existence in captivity with nothing to do but think... plan, plot, dream of the countless thing they can do when they bust out of there! So when a babies stares me down I'm not uncomfortable at all Beamer!! 2 words... STARING CONTEST!! CHALLENGE ACCEPTED BABY! I have a 93.6 winning percentage.
Beamer - You always struck me as being ultra competitive but yes, this takes the cake. Hate to see what would happen if a baby flipped you the bird. Thank you for the enlightening interview McB!!
