Beamer - Welcome to another instalment of GM Fireside Chat with Beamer. Today we visit with Steve, GM of the Nashville Predators. Welcome Steve.... Question 1. How do you see your Preds doing this year in SCD?
Steve - Hey Beamer, thanks for having me. As for the Preds upcoming season I see us doing fairly well. There is some stiff competition in the division and the Conference for that matter but we should be in the running. With the re-signings of DeAngelo, Petry and DeMelo our D core is in good shape. Hoping that the younger guys, Necas, Steel and Gusev take another step forward and we should have some good firepower up front. Cap is a bit of a crunch but that comes with the territory.. and maybe a deal or two to shore things up. Overall though looking forward to a good season ahead.
Beamer - Preds are looking pretty strong....some great depth now and some great prospects for the future. Trade me Valimaki and we can remain friends . Question 2. Speaking of friends, who are the GMs here that you'd protect in a bar fight if some unruly patron say smashed a bottle of beer over their head. Describe why.
Steve - Oh yes, a bar fight, now we are having some fun.. firstly, you are forgetting (or maybe blocking it out) I traded Valimaki at the deadline last year and since you openly wept I think I need to have your back.. lol.. truthfully I would go to bat for anybody here for one reason or another.. Beamer I have your back because you run the best fantasy hockey league, bar none!! McBitter being a Habs fan automatically gets him in the good books with me.. Mighty Buffalo being a Nucks fan.. well he has suffered enough.. at the end of the day we’re all hockey fans (greatest sport on earth) and as guys we should have each other’s back. Edit: Pens, Wild and Vegas claiming those guys on me. you are on your own
Beamer - Actually you're right...I did block out that you dealt Valimaki....I'll have to erase that auto message I have asking you to trade me Jusso. Sad times for me here. Sniff sniff. Editor note....If Gameface gets into a bar fight: 1. He probably started, and 2. He'd be able teach his buddies a good number of cheap shots to get in against the other combatants. Question 3. Where did the name Pina Colada come from? Explain how you found your answer.
Steve - Pina Colada... the only thing I can think of was that Taco Bell ad.. other than that couldn’t tell you a thing about it. Being a Canadian means drinking beer!! Anything else.. just fluff..
Beamer - Other acceptable forms of alcohol intake being a fellow Canadian is rye or spiced rum. Pina Colada is a Voodoo type of drink...complete with mini umbrella and some sort of garnish. I only know of them since the Mrs drinks them too. And since you said Taco Bell, I'm craving a quesadilla now...thanks for that. Question 4. If you were an artist, what would you paint on your first day and why?
Steve - lol.. agreed on the rum and the umbrellas (fluff).. my first painting would be that of this great bunch of Nashville Predators hoisting the SCD championship!!! Considering I have worked in Avionics my entire life.. to most it will look like a bunch of stick men holding up a coffee mug..
Beamer - I'm sure those would be some pretty happy stickman if they could get that far. Gotta get that team through the stickman Flames and stickman Hurricanes amongst others, but I know the Wright brothers were dreamers so I'd say your on par with those aviation pioneers. Lol Last question...What is your spirit animal and why?
Steve - Wasn’t sure about this one.. but Monday morning commute in Mtl traffic made me think.. picturing a hawk soaring high, peaceful, alone.. only thing that kept me from losing my mind..
Beamer - That would do it for sure....anything about traffic would want to make me soar above all those...especially seeing first hand the traffic chaos pretty much all of La Belle Province. Best of luck to you and your Preds this year...may you fly high over your rivals (except for the Flames of course).
