Hey everyone,
IRL Stanley Cup Finals are underway soon STL vs BOS. I’m liking the activity in the Proboards during this “slow” time and the buzz in the GroupMe chat.
SCD Awards are being tabulated and winners to be announced tomorrow (sorry IRL for me got busy and couldn’t find the time to do it).
Mike, Derek and myself have review the suggestions anted up a few minor tweaks; see the ten points below as to what was discussed in a summarized format.
1. Time limit to claim prospects, draft picks, etc is 7 days in FANTRAX!. This is a BIG CHANGE. If a player or players are not added to your Fantrax roster by yourself, then that player becomes a free agent again. For players not listed in the Fantrax player database, a note will be made in the SCD Master List and those players are exempt from this rule).
2. FRANCHISE TAG website -No change for 2019/20; still using ESPN. Effective immediately, SCD is using FANTRAX as per June 7th, 2019 email to all GMs. LMs will still look up a tagged player’s info using our stat categories in ESPN Fantrax. Message myself or Mike or Derek on who you want to franchise tag and we’ll confirm the contract value.
3. Adding Draft Picks into Fantrax – because it’s 2019 and we can do this. LMs Mike and Derek are doing this as we speak.
4. Keeping SCD Scale contract value at 800K - good round number and averages out the top level rookie salary of 925K and other lower numbers for ELC.
5. Over 50 Prospects Penalty – we’re keeping the “penalty” of having 51 or more prospects as is 800K per player. Will be reviewed again next season.
6. Seattle Expansion – will match IRL expansion with same parameters that we used when VGK joined SCD (subject to some tweaks but all teams will be given plenty of advance notice a year out from the draft). It’ll be a tough decision to make the final selection for the GM of Seattle as I’ve already been approached by what I would deem as TWO very qualified GMs. When the NHL first talked of expansion, I was contacted within days by these two individuals from within our league who wanted to take on this new Seattle team and would cede control of his current franchise when Seattle officially enters the league. League longevity and experience in SCD, along with above normal activity level, and the promise to leave their current SCD franchise in good shape has set these GMs up as an ideal candidates for our 32nd franchise (and no I’m not one of them). We have a long ways to go until Seattle joins up, but I feel confident in the ability of our two applicants to date. Just wanted to keep everyone in the loop.
7. SCD Proboards Site clean-up – removal of CHATANDGO + GroupMe link, and an exciting refreshed look to the SCD Proboards Forum. Check it out and familiarize yourself with the links. E.g.…find the link to see where the draft order is. Kudos to Wood (STL) for doing this site change.
8. Team Coaches added to SCD – consider it a little fun side game. Something completely new that I haven’t seen in any other Fantasy league…we’ll give it a go and see how this works. Each team starts off with their IRL coach. They’re assigned a salary unless their IRL salary is known (thank you capfriendly.com for the most part). IRL teams that don’t release term or salary of coaches, I’ve assigned a $3.00M value and done a best estimate for term remaining. The SCD GM can hire/fires as they see fit, BUT have to remain within a separate salary cap set up for coaches. When a coaches term is up, you can try to extend them but they need to go through the process listed in “point A” below. Keep in mind, when you fire a coach, the full salary is on the books for his full term left. Only a few parameters:
a. Like the Free Agent bidding scenario, a coach must be bid upon – top bid after 24 hours gets the coach – a new thread in Proboards for this.
b. Minimum salary is 800K for a Head Coach – Max is $8.00M. Minimum Term is 1 year, Maximum term is 5 years.
c. Coaches must be alive (Punch Imlach can’t coach your team…he dead!)
d. Must be “real” Hockey coaches (e.g. you can’t have Sammy Hagar of Van Halen as your Head Coach). Minor League or Professional coaches in North America or Europe are acceptable.
e. At this time…no trading of coaches. Just hire and fire them.
9. Extra Stat categories – a couple of suggestions for these: Two new categories will be added over the coming two seasons.
a. SAVES for goalies (effective 2019/20 season) and,
b. Short-handed points added for skaters (effective 2020/21 season)
10. Playoff format – changing to IRL Top 3 per division and then two “Wild Card” teams effective 2019/20 season (to match IRL NHL). LMs Derek and Mike are looking after the schedule in Fantrax again this year and can field any questions you may have.
That's it for now....I'll be posting this in the Proboards later for reference.
If you have any questions, please as always, contact an LM.
Cheers,
Beamer - CGY
